Do you surround yourself with people who are always complaining about this and that? Do you find that they never have anything positive to say about anyone or anything? Maybe you feel negative all the time as well. This is partly caused by the people surrounding you.
It’s easy to feel depressed, stressed, anxious and down all the time if your world is that way because it drags you down. If you want to feel better, you MUST take action. Start by eliminating as much negativity from your life as possible. This could be events, occasions and even people (family and friends).
If you belong to a negative club, or visit people or places, stop going there. That part is simple. When it comes to people, that’s a different story.
You may have one or two family members who always call you a no-hoper (and probably a range of other names as well, but maybe not all as polite). If you don’t live with them, it’s easier to spend less time in their company. If you DO live with them, you’ll have to find ways to spend less time in their presence. If nothing works, you may have to address the problem with them directly.
If you have negative friends who drag you down, you have to decide whether to keep them in your life or make a complete split, so you can become a better person. Sometimes honesty IS the best policy if you want to make a significant change in your life and become more positive.
You can’t make these changes overnight, so you must sit down and work out an action plan and then stick to it. If you follow your plan, over a period of time you’ll start feeling better about yourself and about life in general. Feelings of depression, anxiety and stress may still exist but, if they do, their power will be greatly reduced. You’ll also find it easier to manage the days when you do feel negative.
If you can’t make these changes on your own, seek help, whether it’s from a counsellor, doctor, psychologist, friend or family member. Whoever you choose, it must be somebody you completely trust because you’ll have to open up some deep parts of your psyche that you normally keep hidden and protected.
What you do now is entirely up to you. However, you can’t expect changes to occur if you keep doing what you have always been doing. It’s only when you choose to do something differently that you’ll experience positive changes that will help you, whether it’s for a short, medium or long time.
The ball’s now in YOUR court!
